Transition Program

Mission:

Maintain the ideal of full-dispensing independent optometry, owned by optometrists, by encouraging the transfer of clinic ownership within the OSI network from older to younger optometrists.

Goals:

  1. Enable each OSI optometrist to get a fair value for its’ clinic ;

  2. Encourage and support young optometrists who wish to become owners of full-dispensing optometry clinics offering the full-scope of professional optometric services as well as a complete mix of optical products;

  3. Maintain and reinforce the collective market share of OSI clinics by keeping within the OSI network the patients of clinics where one or many optometrists retire or sell their share of the clinics’ ownership.

Strategies:

  1. Encourage younger optometrists to share the ideal of full-dispensing independent and doctor-owned optometry:
    • Organize visits of OSI and Securo Vision premises for optometry       students; as well as discussions with OSI management and certain optometrists of the OSI network;
    • Organize information sessions on full-dispensing independent optometry;
    • Offer our support to Schools of Optometry to give marketing seminars or conferences to their students as part of their regular curriculum;
    • Encourage the clinics of our network to offer apprenticeships and/or summer jobs to optometry students;
    • Organize special events for our clinics to offer full-time or part-time jobs to graduating students entering the marketplace;
    • Communicate regularly with recent graduates, less than ten years after graduation, to inform them of job and/or partnership opportunities within our network.

  2. Educate older optometrists on the importance of preparing the transfer of ownership to younger optometrists as soon as possible:
    • Seminars and conferences on how to prepare retirement, how to attract, keep, and involve young optometrists as employees or co-owners;

  3. Support all optometrists, old and young, who want to be involved in a process of ownership transfer:
    • Seminars and conferences on buying or selling an optometry clinic;
    • Develop a database of typical contracts for selling/buying a clinic, partnership and/or employment agreements,
    • Clinic evaluation services;
    • Financing program to facilitate certain transactions.
