Elmira Family Eye Care

Dr. Carole Wilkinson has been offering leading edge, comprehensive eye care since 1988. Her commitment to early eye disease detection and prevention makes her the only office to offer Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), a sophisticated procedure that images the retina in extreme detail that catches eye disease earlier than previously possible. She is involved in the training of Optometric students at the University of Waterloo, participates as a quality assurance assessor for the College of Optometrists, and has been a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists for 30 years. She extends her skills beyond academics and the community by participating in a yearly Eye Mission Trip to Guatemala, providing Eye care to those in need.

In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Carole Wilkinson feels strongly about giving back to the community. She has been an active volunteer for the Chamber of Commerce, Elmira Nursery School, Parent teacher associations, First Elmira Scouts, Woolwich Lions, and other local organizations. She and her husband raised their 3 children in Elmira and now live in Waterloo.

Dr. Carolyn Barth is a native of Waterloo Region and graduated from the University of Waterloo with her Honours Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees in 2008. She has the distinction of being a member of the “Dean’s Honours List” and having received the Irving Baker Excellence in Clinical Optometry Award for her exemplary clinical skills. Dr. Barth has enhanced these clinical skills through externships in New Zealand and the United States which provided her with advanced training to diagnose and co-manage, with medical teams, conditions such as Glaucoma, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetes, and Cataracts.

Since graduation, Dr. Barth has provided comprehensive eye exams for residents in nursing homes in Brantford, Paris, London and Kitchener. She is also a Clinical Supervisor for third and fourth year optometry students at the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry.

In her spare time, Dr. Barth volunteers with the Chicopee Track 3 program to teach children with visual, mental and physical impairments the joy of skiing. She also enjoys travelling with her husband and daughter, swimming, cycling, skiing, and playing the cello. Dr. Barth is excited to be a part of the wonderful Elmira community.

As a local to Waterloo County, Dr. Catherine Watson is excited to serve the eye care needs of Elmira, St Jacobs and the surrounding regions. Having completed her Honours Bachelor of Science in BioMedical Sciences at the University of Guelph, graduating “With Distinction” in 2015, she then successfully entered and completed the University of Waterloo’s Doctor of Optometry program, graduating on the “Dean’s Honours List” in 2019. She has enhanced her skills through externships in Brantford and North Waterloo, working with both optometrists and ophthalmologists to cover a large scope of eye health and vision expertise including Contact Lenses, Glaucoma, Age Related Macular Degeneration, Cataracts, Diabetes, Dry Eye and Myopia Control. She loves to care for families and takes a special interest in the rehabilitation and maintenance of good vision through vision therapy. She recently completed a Vision Therapy course with the College of Optometrists in Vision Development and is excited to work with other professionals to help patients who struggle with double vision, reading difficulties, and eye muscle precision.

In addition to her passion for eye care and patient health management, she adores animals and the outdoors. Her favourite hobbies include hiking, gardening, canoeing, and enjoying the hammock in her backyard. As a choir director for the past ten years, she thrives on music and loves to sing in her spare time.

Kathy is a life-long resident of the Township of Woolwich and co-founder of Lighthouse Children’s Home; a ministry where orphaned African children are valued and given the basic necessities of life and an education. Community Services that she holds dear in her heart are Association for Community Living and the Special Olympics. She is skilled in patient interactions and she looks forward to assisting you with any of your eye care concerns.

Val is a life-long resident of Elmira and has been involved in numerous community service events, including the Flame of Hope Trail Ride for Diabetes Research. She has over 30 years of experience in customer service and she looks forward to working with you in meeting your eye care needs.

Amanda is an Elmira native and she loves the small town family feel. She brings with her experience and a passion for biology, and hence, she looks forward to working with our doctors in performing the necessary tests for early eye disease prevention. She looks forward to getting to know you and to provide you with personalized care.
