Burlington Vision Care

Dr. Patrick Hector was born and raised in the Burlington area. He graduated from the University of Waterloo school of Optometry on the Dean’s Honour List after also completing an Honours BSc degree in Biomedical Science. During his final year of training, Dr. Hector completed an externship focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease at the Utah Eye Institute in Salt Lake City, alongside cataract, glaucoma and retinal specialists. After graduation he began practicing at Burlington Vision Care with his father, Dr. Dana Hector (retired 2019), and has also been a Clinical Instructor at the University of Waterloo. Dr. Hector is certified to prescribe ocular therapeutics and is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, Canadian Association of Optometrists and the Hamilton and District Society of Optometrists. He practices full scope optometry and welcomes new and returning patients of all ages. Dr. Hector lives in Burlington and enjoys spending time with his wife Dr. Kristin Person and children. He also enjoys outdoor activities and is a board game enthusiast.

Dr. Kristin Person received her Honours Bachelor of Science before graduating with her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo. During her studies, Dr. Person completed an externship in ocular disease and therapeutics at The Eye Foundation of Utah in Salt Lake City. While there she participated in advanced aspects of therapeutic eye care, including Cataract, Glaucoma, Retinal and Extra-ocular muscle surgeries and management. She also completed two externships in primary care. In 2009 she was honoured with the Dr. W. Ross Andrews Prize for Clinical Proficiency and was presented with the O.S.I. Award for Excellence in Practice Management in "recognition of demonstrated leadership in the areas of professionalism and communication skills." Through volunteer medical eye care missions, Dr. Person has donated her time to provide eye care to underprivileged locals in developing countries including Zihuatanejo, Mexico and Piribebuy, Paraguay. Dr. Person is a member of the Hamilton and District Society of Optometrists, Canadian Association of Optometrists, The Ontario Association of Optometrists, and the College of Optometrists of Ontario. Dr. Person practices full-scope optometry and enjoys the one-on-one relationship between doctor and patient in our practice setting. When away from the office she enjoys travelling and spending time with her husband Dr. Patrick Hector and their two children.

Dr. Lauren Lai was born in Cambridge and raised in Waterloo, ON. She received her Honours Bachelor of Science degree and then went on to obtain her Doctor of Optometry degree, both at the University of Waterloo. Her clinical training included an ocular disease rotation in Mississauga, ON, where she gained extensive experience in treating and co-managing various ocular conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and cataracts. She also provided full-scope patient care during her primary care rotation right here in Burlington! She is excited to remain in the area to continue providing top quality eye care to those in the Burlington community and surrounding regions. Dr. Lai also participated in a VOSH mission trip to the Wiikwemkoong First Nation in Manitoulin Island, where she helped provide comprehensive optometric care to youth. In her spare time, Dr. Lai enjoys spending time with family and friends hiking, traveling, and discovering local food spots.
