The OSI Optometry Education Advisory Committee helps guide educational initiatives that support clinical excellence, business success, and the adoption of emerging technologies and best practices within independent optometry. Through their clinical expertise and real-world experience, members provide strategic guidance to ensure OSI educational programming remains relevant, practical, and forward-thinking.
Dr. Martin Spiro, Chair
Centre Visuel Optika, Pointe-Claire, Quebec
Dr. Martin Spiro is an optometrist and co-owner of Optika Eye Care Center in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, a multidisciplinary clinic offering a broad range of specialized eye care services. His clinical interests include ocular disease, low vision rehabilitation, myopia management, and advancing the full scope of modern optometric practice. Dr. Spiro is the Past President of the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO) and has been actively involved in national leadership, advocacy, education, and professional development initiatives across Canada. He is also a clinical educator at the Université de Montréal School of Optometry and regularly lectures on emerging clinical and industry topics.
Dr. Bronwyn Mulherin
Downtown Optometry, Fredericton, New Brunswick
A graduate of the University of Waterloo’s School of Optometry and Vision Science, Dr. Mulherin practiced first in Ottawa, where she served as co-president of the local Ottawa Society of Optometrists. Dr. Mulherin moved to Fredericton in 2007 and is an active member of the New Brunswick Association of Optometrists (NBAO), sitting on its Council and serving as the NBAO rep to CAO’s Council.
A general practice OD with a special interest in treating Dry Eye, Specialty Contact Lenses and Myopia Management, Dr. Mulherin owns and manages her practice, Downtown Optometry, which includes four associate optometrists and a fabulous support team.
Dr. David Ng
Bayview Vision Care, North York, Ontario, The Myopia Clinic, Toronto, Ontario
Dr. David Ng, is an optometrist, educator, and a myopia management advocate with over 25 years of clinical experience. He is the owner of Bayview Vision Care and The Myopia Clinic in Toronto, where he provides myopia management with a focus on orthokeratology since 2005.
Dr. Ng earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in 1995 and holds the International Academy Certification in Myopia Management from the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control (AAOMC). He currently serves on the AAOMC Board of Directors providing strategic leadership and oversight, ensuring governance standards.
Dr. Harbir Sian OD
Clarity Eyecare, Surrey, British Columbia
Dr. Harbir Sian is the co-owner of three optometric practices in British Columbia. In the clinic, Dr. Sian enjoys practicing various specialties within eyecare, particularly myopia management and dry eye.
After completing his Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in 2010, Dr. Sian found that he was passionate about giving back to those who have less access to care and about educating the public and professionals in various settings.
Over the years, Harbir has volunteered in multiple mobile vision clinics, including global clinics South America and in the Middle East. He has taken his passion for education to countless stages and conferences around North America, including giving a TEDx talk titled "Our Eyes Are The Windows to Our Soul”, which shared the magic and power of the human visual system. Harbir was named as one of the Contact Lens Institute’s Visionaries in 2025 and 2026. He is also the host of Canada’s number 1 optometry podcast, The 20/20 Podcast, which showcases successful guests from various industries and backgrounds.
Dr. Patrick Simard
Clinique d’Optométrie Bélanger, Montreal, Quebec
Dr. Patrick Simard is graduated from École d’Optométrie de l’Université de Montréal in 2002 where he also obtained his Master’s Degree in vision science on keratoconus research (2006). He is a Fellow of the AAO, the IACLE, the BCLA and the IAOMC. He is a Diplomate of the AAO in the section on Cornea, Contact Lenses and Refractive Technologies. He also obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration in 2010 from HEC Montreal. Dr. Simard is in private practice at Clinique d’Optométrie Bélanger and has been a clinical instructor and lecturer at Université de Montréal since 2002. His research interests include myopia control, orthokeratology, aberrometry, scleral lenses and dry eyes.
